We talk about her music, her new podcast called “What’s Mine is Yours” and we learn about the best and biggest lie she told her parents!

Sue Bonzell

She has been named a CMT next up now and she has a new podcast out Tiffany. Woys is this hearing Tiffany?

Tiffany Woys

Hi.

Sue Bonzell

I’m so excited to have you here.

Tiffany Woys

I’m so excited to be okay good.

Sue Bonzell

Because I’ve been loving listening to your music. I’m like, Dang, this girl is so good. I’m excited to talk about your music. You’ve got a new song out yet you released an EP in the in the spring right? Yes. Tell us about some of the new music.

Tiffany Woys

Well the song that’s at country radio right now which I think I’ll be performing for you I don’t want you back is really really special. It kind of tells my sister story which maybe we’ll get into and we won’t about

Sue Bonzell

oh, we’re gonna need to go write it. Let’s hear about it.

Tiffany Woys

This song was kind of I recorded it because it was really inspired by my sister was engaged. And eight weeks for the wedding. He he bailed which is we don’t like him right? Now we should like him. But um, so that kind of that push and pull that I don’t want you back but I want you back kind of that that feeling that that heart tug, feeling that yo yo of emotions, and then going to record the music video was I think the most fun and fun is an ironic, weird word to say yeah. But we were able to actually bring that entire thing to life or we actually got lookalikes on set. The actress were my sister’s clothes. I pulled the whole Taylor Swift thing we did like Easter eggs, about kind of their whole relationship. Wow. And I don’t even know if my sister has actually watched the

Sue Bonzell

interview. It’s gonna ask because she seen it and how emotional was that for her?

Tiffany Woys

I think it was quite emotionally from what I remember her saying because this is came out a little while ago. Now. She was like, I didn’t really want to get through the whole thing. And because it was told so correctly, and that I think it just brought back all the feelings but good to report that she is in a happy relationship now and she’s super great. And we’re good to go. Now. As long as the the music video gets at him, you know? Yeah, a little,

Sue Bonzell

just a little knife. Turn the knife. Yeah, to do that in a while. It’s which is where you have the power with the music, right? Which is so I totally get why Taylor Swift does it right. Exactly. Yeah. So now so now you’ve had your own experiences, right? With some heartbreak. I wrote a song about that. Tell us about

Tiffany Woys

I have I released a song. Oh my gosh, years ago. Now Love has no heart. And that was about a relationship. When I moved to Nashville. I was dating a guy for five years and he broke up with me over the phone.

Sue Bonzell

And dang girl, you got material for days. You can

Tiffany Woys

kind of what the heck, you know, I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with him. But good news is I didn’t and now I’m with the love of my life. And we’re going to be getting married. We were supposed to get married in October. And hurricane Ian, unfortunately. Put that on pause. But that’s okay. Because I am still with him. And and that’s all that matters is I’m still with the guy that I am going to end up with. Yeah. And we’re getting married in April now. So who cares about the guy who broke up with me over the phone?

Sue Bonzell

You’re like, thank you. Yeah, thanks for the phone call.

Tiffany Woys

Yeah, thanks for the phone call. And we never talk since. Okay, you don’t need to know and I need I met my fiance actually only 30 days later, which was hitting really wild. I did not share that with my fiance right off the bat because I think he would have thought that he was like a rebound. Right? Yeah. And he ended up did finding out but it was really weird about him finding out about the relationship and the breakup, which was probably not the best honesty’s the best policy people he found out about the relationship actually on Radio Disney country I didn’t I first came out and it debuted already Disney country and I told the whole story of the song and it was his mom actually now my scenery mother in law, who called him and said, Oh, honey, she okay, like Is everything okay with her? And he goes, What are you talking about mom? And then um, so now I look back at it now and I was like, I probably should have just told you right off the bat. It ended up working out anyway. But still honestly best balls

Sue Bonzell

honestly best. Yep. Sharon. Start right there. Yeah, good. You know what? Watch out mother law. I know we love Well, let’s talk about you have a new podcast coming up in November, right? Ido.  Oh, yeah. Let’s hear about the podcast.

Tiffany Woys

Oh my gosh. Okay. So it’s called What’s mine is yours. And to start with just the name in general came to me actually, oddly enough in my sleep like I was dreaming because I was having a really tough time figuring out the name. My guess is all about the songwriter. I’m only interviewing songwriters about stories by the songs. And it’s kind of evolved into now asking the songwriters and getting their opinion on the industry in itself. I mean, the good the bad, the ugly all of it, where it’s been where it’s going, do they like it? Do they not like it? So not just about like the heartbeat of Nashville, which is the songwriter and the stories behind the songs, but also, what’s their take on the industry? Yeah, so where What’s mine is yours came from was the idea of I’m an artist that I love being pitched songs. I love taking songs that have been written by who I think make this city go round, which is the songwriter and they have a story to tell. I adapt on to that song as being pitched those songs and then now it’s mine to now be the vehicle for that song and tell the story and ultimately the point of an artist And us releasing music is then it goes to the public, the listeners, and then they attach their stories and their life to so it’s kind of What’s mine is yours and you just keep passing it on and so forth.

Sue Bonzell

I love that how fun is so have you you got some some in the can already? Oh yeah, and I good. I think

Tiffany Woys

we’re at like 12 to 13 episodes and that is going to be some of the same guests divided into a few episodes. There’s some people we just can’t edit. All right, yeah, it’s just too good. And what I’ve really noticed about interviewing songwriters is how much they want to talk. And it just proved to me that they’re not talked to enough. And they have something to say. And when you finally actually give them the microphone to give their side of the story of things. They don’t want to not talk right. And I think I have had almost every single guest that I’ve had thus far has talked for at least two hours. So awesome. They’ve been in my living room for up to four hours, which means they have something to say exactly. And I you know, in Nashville, there’s a lot of you know, we all come together and we all you know, it’s about the songwriter and we’re we’re wanting to give our support, but I wanted to take it one step further. I feel like there’s a lot of posting it out on Instagram, Tik Tok, and, you know, they have all these grand ideas and these things that they want to say to support the songwriter but I don’t see a lot being done. So I figured put your money where your mouth is. Let’s start a podcast. Let’s get their voices heard.

Sue Bonzell

I love it. That’s a brilliant see. Found you found a need? And there it is. Yeah,

Tiffany Woys

yeah. I’m really excited for people to hear it because I don’t think it’s I don’t think it’s being done yet. Right. i And that’s mainly what you want to do as an artist in general, right? And you need to you know, carve your own path through what’s different.

Sue Bonzell

What’s something a little bit different that you can do. Yeah,

Tiffany Woys

and I love that it’s evolved into sometimes the podcasts we’re not even talking about them. Personally, we’re talking about their opinions on other things in the music business. And it’s really interesting to get their take on it. That is so

Sue Bonzell

cool. Well talking about you know, being new but not new. You did a music video for do ya.

Tiffany Woys

Oh my gosh.

Sue Bonzell

Okay, so this is a great video. If you guys have not seen it, go go look it up. And I had to do I was like full on doubletake because I’m like, is that Shania Twain? You know?

Tiffany Woys

Now, I don’t think I look anything like her. But I think it’s because there’s like a lack of brunettes and catchy music. So when you see a brunette, you’re like, Oh, should I tweet? I don’t think I look anything like her. Well, a huge compliment.

Sue Bonzell

But wait a minute, you also were dressed completely in her outfit from the video.

Tiffany Woys

I’m really I’m trying to look like her. Yes, right. And it’s music videos are like my favorite thing actually to do as an artist because I’m able to one I’ve used the same director for every single music video, Robert Chambers, and he’s an absolute genius. And what I love about our relationship is that we are very, very collaborative. And he loves hearing what I want to do and I’m very, very opinionated about what I want to do in a music video. Because to me the great that’s an awesome creative part. I love being able to bring the song to life and Delia I actually had no idea for it. But it came to me again I was like thinking myself gosh, I kept on being told after it was released. It sounds like a like late 90s early millennium, like female country song but like more modern I go. Well then that’s it and hit I thought of Ariana Grande is music video. I forget the song but she does all like the rom coms. And she like, Mean Girls 13 going on 30 And I thought, how about I take three women, three iconic music videos and country music for females. And I recreate scenes from that. It’s great.

Sue Bonzell

I love it. I love it so much fun. So much fun. Okay, let’s talk about singing. Okay, national television debut. Oh, right.

Tiffany Woys

Right. Right. So

Sue Bonzell

tell us where you were. What happened?

Tiffany Woys

Yeah. Yes, it was at a NASCAR race at Darlington raceway. And it was so much fun, very nerve wracking, by the way, whoa, that I’ve been singing. That was how I got into music was seeing national anthem. And it was when I heard LeAnn Rimes sing it. And I was actually on one of her it was actually on her album, the one that we’ve had I live, I don’t know which track it was, but I bought the cassette tape, and I put it in my Walkman. And I bought it at Tower record. I love it. I love it. And so

Sue Bonzell

tape Walkman all people won’t know what that means. But we got it, you

Tiffany Woys

have to record it, write it back and get the pencil and get Yeah, I want to sing it over and over and over again, to the point where my mom bought it started to get a little weird. She was like, who’s seen the national anthem up like, and she would walk up and she’s like, Tiffany, are you seeing the national anthem here? And I think I was maybe five. And I just became obsessed with it, not knowing what first of all what the song even stood for at the time. And so I just became the little girl that went around everywhere and sing the national anthem. But let me tell you that it’s a lot more nerve wracking as an adult to sing it than as a kid. Kids. You’re fearless, right? Nothing scares you. And as an adult, you’re like, I’ve seen people mess this song. And you don’t live it down. So I was like, yikes. And the older I get the more I get in my head about it. So I don’t do it as frequently anymore. But the song means so much more to me now that I know what it actually stands. versus when you get the opportunity to sing it. It’s an incredible honor. I mean, never take it lightly. You’re off. If you’re asked to sing the national anthem. It’s a big

Sue Bonzell

deal. That is pretty cool. So now you’re talking about your your folks and singing Did Did you get a karaoke machine when you were young?

Tiffany Woys

Oh, I think I’ve had a few. Yeah, I’m sure in like, classically, probably gifted to me on Christmas morning. I’m pretty sure one of them was gifted to me on Christmas morning. And I probably annoyed the heck out of them. Right for a long time.

Sue Bonzell

That’s what you’re supposed to do?

Tiffany Woys

Well, probably because they thought it was going to be a hobby. Right? And like, Oh, this is cute. Cute. Cute. Yeah. And then all of a sudden, it wasn’t cute anymore. And then they were within it. I just saw like a veil of worry. Like, oh, what do we do? She won’t stop. She’s not gonna make Wait, she’s not gonna make any money. She’s not gonna be independent for a really long time. And I’m like, yeah, that’s about what I’m about to do. So really exciting. Yeah, they wanted me to be a lawyer. And I get it, I want it to be too. But then I when I started to self reflect of why I enjoyed law, it was because it was a form of performance. I was in a thing called mock trial in high school where I was one around and I competed at courthouses and where everyone came in, and you like, basically did a mock trial. And I loved being the opening and closing arguments. And I was a very, I’m a very opinionated argumentative girl on my own. So I loved it. But I realized why I was doing it. I was in community theater growing up, I cheered. I don’t even know if I really loved all of those things individually. Or if I just loved performing for me. Yeah. And so I kind of had to tap into that portion of me and really lean into it. And I’ve been so lucky that my parents have been so supportive of leaning into what makes me happy. I think that’s very, very important and really crucial in one’s finding their journey is surrounding yourself with people who really support you leaning into your passion, even if it means it. You won’t be successful right off the bat. But what is success? Anyway? I think success is about being happy in what you’re doing every day.

Sue Bonzell

Why is words right there? Right there? No, I do want to talk about your name. I had to ask you how to pronounce it Woys Tiffany Woys? Yeah. What? What kind of errors do people make with your name? Oh,

Tiffany Woys

whoops. Wow, those ways one of my best friends from homes actually calls me Wowzers. And I think he just makes it a joke because people call me that. And actually coming into country music. I didn’t go by my original Oh, my last name. At first I went by my middle name, which was my grandma Lorraine. And so we went by Tiffany Lorraine for a really long time, which is in the past. So we can’t call up by me now that I realized that it wasn’t really sounding Correct. With the sound of my music. It almost sounded like I was from the south. I mean, typical rain is very country sounding right. And I’m in country music. And while I love country music, and that’s why a minute, I definitely lean more pop country. So I kind of wanted to just stay completely true to myself. And that’s when I realized, like, let’s just go with my actual last name and people eventually get it right. You know, you think you hear it once and if you’re corrected on it, then you don’t forget it.

Sue Bonzell

Yes, exactly. Well, like you said, you said Boys, boys or toys.

Tiffany Woys

Those not together. But they just it rhymes with that because it’s spelt Woy s so it’s basically just interchanging the first letter. Yes, exactly.

Sue Bonzell

So now you know exactly how to pronounce her name. When you see it. You’d be like I know exactly who she is. I know how to say your name. Yes. So are you ready to maybe play those songs I would love to

Tiffany Woys

I like to play I don’t want you back because it’s the current single out of country radio and so far I think it’s doing pretty well and it’s it’s been it means a lot to me this song means a lot actually to my entire family. So I’m really excited.

Sue Bonzell

Awesome. When we come back Tiffany boys is going to sing her latest song.

Tiffany Woys

Hi everybody. My name is Tiffany voice I’m going to be singing my brand new single at country radio. I don’t want you back and I’m accompanied by Taylor Unruh. Wonderful guitar player. This song is really special to me. It is CO written by one of my favorite writers in Nashville Sara Hayes and I released this song because it mimics and mirrors so many people’s stories about being pulled back and forth in a relationship and not knowing when to actually leave and what things are good for you and what they’re not and I hope everybody can relate to this song because I know it means a lot to me and it means a lot to my sister because it told her story and I hope you guys like it this is I don’t want you back he and I don’t want to see your face to one another how you doing? I’m a fan of fan again drunk dial it to a MC miss you don’t want to wonder about her. If she makes you dead or if she was around I don’t really care if you’re smoking again and I don’t want to run into you and greeting that I don’t want you my heart slipping through the cracks No Don’t call me to try to forget all the reasons I love you. I don’t want to want you I don’t want you I don’t want you I don’t want to lie to the very last me of my birthday hoping you’re alone and you think in me dancing in your phone and you’re thinking the same thing you know Don’t forget all the reasons I love you. I don’t want to watch you I don’t want you I don’t want you sometimes to so I can be your voice that I don’t want you and my husband through the facts No, don’t call me reasons I love you. I don’t want to want you back. I don’t want you I don’t want you I don’t want you. I don’t want you. I don’t want you

Sue Bonzell

all right, Tiffany Woys. I don’t want you back. Great song. Thank you for sharing that with us. Now, I know that you’re from California.

Tiffany Woys

I am over there in California. And

Sue Bonzell

so am i Are you really? You’re from Sacramento. I’m from Santa Rosa.

Tiffany Woys

Oh my god.

Sue Bonzell

So yes, so we probably we I bet if we sat down and played the Do you know game? We probably know a whole bunch the same people.

Tiffany Woys

I mean we’d write we have to die. No, that’s because that’s pretty close. I like to I like to kind of brag on our you hear a lot of people bragging about that they’re from like Southern California, right? Yeah, we know you get the beach we get. But I like to brag on Northern California. I think it’s just as beautiful. It’s just different. People are wonderfully nice. I know. We get a lot of heat. California’s from apparently not being very friendly. North. Northern California. Everyone’s really

Sue Bonzell

lovely. And we have good wine. Yeah, we sure do. Right? We do. Sorry. That was a little plug for Northern California. Right. Okay. All right. And back to Nashville. Before you go, we’re gonna play a little game. Love it. You’re ready. We’re gonna play my world famous game called Truth or truth. We play this every single episode truth or truth, truth or truth? I don’t, I’m not going to dare you to do anything. Because I like that. I don’t want you to break a leg. You know, embarrass yourself.

Tiffany Woys

streaking your time good and embarrassing.

Sue Bonzell

So you get to pick your own questions. So we’re gonna do three questions you can do one at a time. Good. Okay. Oh, I love it.

Tiffany Woys

What’s the best advice someone has ever given you? Hmm. You know, I probably my dad, and it’s really, really cliche. And it’s something that I’m sure a lot of people say but it’s actually follow your dreams. And I know some of us are more. I’m not tone deaf to the idea that some of us are more blessed to be able to follow those dreams. Sure, because some people literally as much as they would want to. They can’t sometimes. And I’ve been really really grateful that I have a father that even when I’m down and out and I sometimes don’t want to do artists we do this guy. It’s a world of emotions. Where you question yourself a lot multiple times and he’s always been the one that’s been like No, you’ve got this like you this has been something you’ve wanted to do forever like you how can you just like just randomly close up shop one day And, and I always have the I’m part dreamer part realist. So and I think that’s a really good thing. I think you have to have the dreamer in you, but I like to live in reality as well sometimes. So my dad is the one that still puts the dreamer in me when I get to real.

Sue Bonzell

I love it. See? You surround yourself with the right people, right?

Tiffany Woys

Yes, yeah. And then I’ve been really lucky that they can’t get rid of me because they’re really, right. Sorry. There we go. What’s a secret you kept from your parents? Oh, after I was just like typing data? Oh, what’s a secret I’ve kept for my parents, okay, for a long, long time. My first car was a jeep, a white Jeep kind of like the one shared drove and clueless okay. And I remember I was backing out of our driveway, we had a roundabout little driveway where you could enter in and exit out a different way. And I back why didn’t go through. Normally, I’m not a good driver, by the way, and I don’t try and claim to be I backed out and I hit the light post and it fell over. And it broke, obviously. And I just drove off. And then when my parents asked about the light post, I was like, Oh, this is how it’s a little scary cuz I was very elaborative on my life. I said, Oh, my gosh, mom, dad, you won’t believe it. Like I heard like, you know, those work trucks when they when they go in reversal. I heard that this morning. And I think they did. They were backing up. It wasn’t until like, honestly, three years ago, I think it Thanksgiving that I mean, it was me and like they just looked at me like your lie was so good, hailed and I go, but that’s the catch. I think more detailed the story is always sniff it out. Because it shouldn’t be that detail. They believed it.

Sue Bonzell

Yeah, see, that’s your performance as a lawyer, right? You’re like, this is what happened. Here are the facts.

Tiffany Woys

See, I’m glad I didn’t get into law though. Because I wanted to be a defense attorney. And I thought to myself, What if I had somebody like really horrifically bad and I wanted criminal to I wanted to be criminal while so what if I had someone like really horrifically bad that did bad things, and I got them off. And then you’re like, Oh, now how do I feel about how can I sleep at night? So I realized it probably wasn’t my thing. I like to sleep soundly at night. Yes, yeah.

Sue Bonzell

We like sleeping.

Tiffany Woys

Alright, it’s just the last one last one. Oh, I

Sue Bonzell

gotta make it good. All the money right now.

Tiffany Woys

Who would you want to swap lives with for a week? Oh, goodness. Okay, well, I was just telling you guys a story about like my biggest idol. So I would actually like to swap places with Celine Dion for a week. any stage of where she was at, just because I would love to know what it’s like to one have the voice of an actual literal Angel. That would be fantastic to know personally, where you just like talk and things just magically fall into your mouth. I also would just like to feel what it feels like to have such an impact on music in itself, to be surrounded by people who actually just you’ve made them feel so many things. And even though coming from another artists that I don’t think you know, writes a lot of her music, if any, and she still has an impact on so many people because she makes you feel something with that magical voice of hers. I would like to know what it’s like to be in Celine Dion shoes. I hear she actually has a lot of them too. I saw her on like James Corden karaoke car. It’s a real shoot here. Like she’s a girl after my own heart as she has a really big closet. I have a very big closet because I’m obsessed with clothes. And it pisses my fiance off to no end. So

Sue Bonzell

his closet spaces like this, right? Yeah, he

Tiffany Woys

doesn’t get much. I’m like, Listen, you can kidding me. I blame it on the fact I’m an artist. I have to wear all these things. Yeah, you can’t and

Sue Bonzell

you can’t be seen twice and the same thing. I mean, really, it’s a

Tiffany Woys

faux pas everybody. Yeah, exactly. You can’t but yeah, I’m not as clean as I should be. So close get on the ground a lot. So I end up wearing the same thing over and over again, because I just grabbed this fast like, it’s good. It’s here. So I just don’t I don’t know why I need to do that thing where when you organize your closet, you stick it the wrong way. So how old are you? Oh, yeah, in like a year maybe you should let it go. But I would probably still come up with a reason

Sue Bonzell

why I haven’t gotta keep it I might.

Tiffany Woys

You just might you just might we are moving into a new house. So so I’m gonna have to get real and get rid of a lot of stuff. Okay, um, but yeah, Celine Dion. Celine Dion.

Sue Bonzell

Well, you know what, down the line here? I think there’s probably going to be some people who would say I would love to swap lives. Oh, Tiffany voice.

Tiffany Woys

I don’t know about that. Ah,

Sue Bonzell

we’re gonna make it happen. Let’s do it.

Tiffany Woys

I probably need to like hype up my life to be a little bit more exciting than some people who actually wouldn’t want to do that. We watch a lot of Netflix in our house. about it. What’s wrong with that?

Sue Bonzell

Well, I want to thank you so much for taking the time to be here to sing for us everything. We wish you all the best. Thank you definitely to keep an eye on Tiffany Woys.

Tiffany Woys

Thank you so much. I had so much fun. Absolutely.
