Sue Bonzell:

I’m excited to talk to the guys from Restless Road today. You’re watching Cow Chair Country, powered by vLiveCast. I’m your host, Sue Bonzell and I want to say thank you to our sponsor, SOCO Private Security. Let’s get started and talk to the guys.

Sue Bonzell:

They just played the Grand Ole Opry and are opening for Kane Brown. Please welcome Restless Road. Hey, guys.

Group:

[crosstalk 00:00:34] Hello. Hey, there. How you doing?

Sue Bonzell:

Hi, I’m great. So we’ve got Garrett, we’ve got Zach and we’ve got Colton. Did I do it in the right order?

Group:

You did. Yes. You nailed it.

Sue Bonzell:

Does everybody think you guys are brothers?

Speaker 3:

We get that all the time. Well, It’s not even an inside joke anymore. Everyone says that and thinks that, and I think it’s just because how much time we spend together. We’re all just…

Group:

I think it’s the hair. [crosstalk 00:01:00] No one’s got this hair. Oh man.

Sue Bonzell:

He’s working on the mullet. I like that. It’s looking good. Looking good. So now I found you guys originally on TikToK, you guys would go into these cafes and sing to waitresses and things like that. I mean, tell me about how, how you guys got started with TikTok and…That kind of blew up, I think for you guys.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. I mean, it really started during the pandemic last year. We were all at home kind of off the road and we needed a new way to connect with our fans and make new fans and just really just show our personality. So we got on TikTok. It was the big trend, the big social media platform. And we probably posted probably 25-30 videos before anything really happened. And one day we just decided, we were like we do these funny songs or we make up things and have inside jokes. So why don’t we tell all of our fans and new people about that kind of thing.

Colton:

It’s awesome. It’s just for having fun and being creative and we get to talk to so many new people through it and it’s so cool.

Sue Bonzell:

Yeah, you guys, so it seems like you guys are having a lot of fun when you’re doing that. And if you know, of course, I completely stalked you on TikTok and everything else and Instagram and Facebook and all that good stuff. And you do have a new song out “Bar Friends” that I’m digging, I’m digging. But my favorite TikTik is… Okay, who got the tattoo?

Colton:

Oh that’s me.

Sue Bonzell:

Colton got the tattoo, which is, which is kind of a bad-ass tattoo by the way.

Colton:

Thank you!

Sue Bonzell:

It’s very cool. I was, I was checking it out earlier. But that TikTok is fantastic. Your tattoo guys, like, “Wait, wait, wait, can’t finish the tattoo until I hear the song.” You guys play it and explained to me what happens. ‘Cause it’s freaking hilarious.

Speaker 3:

I’ll let this man right here tell it.

Speaker 4:

So basically, we were showing them our new song and he got a little bit too into it and knocked me right out of my chair. And that honestly it was completely not, [crosstalk 00:02:59] but we rocked with it and it was great. Yeah. We love Bubba. He’s the best energy. He’s so talented.

Sue Bonzell:

That was awesome. I mean, you could tell it was unscripted. He was literally like, “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.” But it was… I watched it I don’t know how many times I’m like, “Okay, that is damn funny.” So a good job for posting that.

Speaker 3:

We literally… I think we, we were like dying, like crying in tears after that. It was so unplanned, but it worked out so perfect. It was, it couldn’t have gone any better.

Sue Bonzell:

Those are the best. I love that. Now speaking of kind of unplanned, I also did see a little video of you guys getting to meet Randy Travis. You guys have covered his songs, I’ve heard you on some of your videos. Especially with Kane Brown. So how was that meeting a legend like Randy Travis?

Colton:

It’s just a huge honor and we all grew up listening to him and he was a huge inspiration for us. And he’s just a legend. I mean, he’s just for him to kind of, I don’t know, show up and support us and encourage us to chase our dreams; I think that just says a lot about him. It really, I mean, it blew us away and we were just so thankful to have him in our corner.

Sue Bonzell:

Yeah. I love that I’ve seen him… He, I mean… Randy Travis is all over TikTok as well. And I love that he is following a lot of the new artists. He’s uplifting them. He’s dueting them. He’s having so much fun. So I’m super excited that you guys got to meet him and have that experience. And then, okay. Like I said, I have so many questions for you guys, Grand Ole Opry. Tell me about that. That’s freaking huge. What happened? How was it? Tell me all the details.

Speaker 3:

Well, we shed a lot of tears that day. First off…

Speaker 4:

We lost a lot of waterways in the form of tears. It was a very emotional day.

Speaker 3:

No, it was, it was absolutely incredible. I think it’s the pinnacle. I mean that for almost every artist in country music, I mean, every person who’s gone on before us who are legends, they’ve come across that stage and stood in that circle. So, it was honestly, it’s kind of hard to put into words what it actually meant for us.

Speaker 4:

We got to have all of our families there. That’ll just meant the world to us and yeah…

Colton:

And Reba was there!

Speaker 4:

They got a backstage picture with Reba.

Speaker 3:

So technically, I guess we opened for Reba.

Sue Bonzell:

Okay. There you go. That goes on the resume, for sure. A hundred percent. Yeah. [inaudible 00:05:28] Now speaking of great resumés. Okay. The Kane Brown connection. So y’all met him a long time ago. That was when two of you were on the competition show, right?

Colton:

Yeah. Golden Bron. X-Factor back in 2013 and that’s where we met Kane. And he was actually going to be a part of our band. And instead he went on to become Kane Brown and we stuck with the band. And then a couple of years later, Garrett was able to join the band and yeah, in 2019, he reached out and we all kind of just ran with the opportunity and it’s just been awesome ever since then. Kane has become a great friend and life is good.

Sue Bonzell:

And you just signed with his record company, right? His new record company, right? You guys were the first?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. We were, we were. The one and only so far. Yeah. It’s a joint venture with Sony. And so we were lucky enough that Kane wanted us to be the first artist, so it was absolutely incredible. So it’s been unbelievable. And to get, to go on tour with them. I mean, it’s kind of just the cherry on top.

Sue Bonzell:

I know. Well, I’m excited because I have tickets to his show in Sacramento. So maybe seeing you guys! [crosstalk 00:06:42] Yes, you will definitely. I’ll be like way in the nosebleed seats like, “Yo guys!” No, no. I’m looking forward to that. That’s going to be amazing. So you guys right now are in Nashville. I’m out here in the wine country, as you may know, I drink a lot of wine. Do you guys like wine and what kind of wine do you like?

Speaker 4:

I’m a red wine guy. I think I like white wine too. I don’t like rosé at all.

Speaker 3:

I like white but it’s something I would like to get more into and learn more about, I think, but I think between red and white, I’m more of a white guy.

Colton:

I’m a red guy. More like I’m more of a Cabernet.

Sue Bonzell:

Cabernet, like something meaty, right?

Colton:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. With a good steak.

Sue Bonzell:

See? This guy knows what he’s talking about. Okay. All right. I like that. Colton. That’s good. So, Colton, you got the guitar there. Love it. You know, you guys have… The most amazing thing with y’all I think is your harmonies that are just… I mean go back to… I’m a little bit older than you and I go back to Alabama and I’m like, “Man, the harmonies of Alabama” and that to me, I’m like, “You guys are right there with that.” So I would love for y’all to share a song if you’re ready to sing for us.

Group:

Absolutely.

Group:

So we’re going to do, I guess we’ll do “Bar Friends”. One, two, three. [I 00:08:20] I don’t spend too much time being lonely. I could get along with anyone at all. But only a few people really know me. And when it hits the fan, that’s who I’m gonna call. ‘Cause I got work friends and I got church friends, I got hometown, grew up on the same red dirt friends, I got great friends and I got fake friends. I got girls that wanna try but we can’t stay friends. Yeah, all in all I’d say that life’s been good to me so far.

Group:

But you know where I go when it gets hard. Out with my bar friends. I think we need a drink right now. Yeah, out with my bar friends.

Group:

You know the ones, they show up when it opens. And ain’t afraid to stay to closing time. They don’t care if you light one up and smoke it. They’ll help you drink some trouble off your mind.

Group:

Cause I got work friends and I got church friends. I got hometown, grew up on the same red dirt friends. I got great friends and I got fake friends. I got girls that wanna try but we can’t stay friends. Yeah, all in all I’d say that life’s been good to me so far. But you know where I go when it gets hard.

Group:

Out with my bar friends. Yeah, I’m with my bar friends.

Group:

Let’s raise ’em up, cheers to us. I dedicate this shot to the crazy ones I got. Here’s to my bar friends. Yeah, here’s to my bar friends I got friends, friends.

Group:

‘Cause I got work friends and I got church friends. I got hometown, grew up on the same red dirt friends. I got great friends and I got fake friends. I got girls that wanna try but we can’t stay friends. Yeah, all in all I’d say that life’s been good to me so far. But you know where I go when it gets hard? Out with my bar friends. Yeah, I’m with my bar friends. Out with my bar friends.

Sue Bonzell:

Yeah. Nice! Okay. Can I try out to be one of the bar friends?

Group:

Oh, you don’t even have to try out here.

Sue Bonzell:

All right. Good. I was hoping you’d say that.

Group:

[crosstalk 00:11:30]`

Sue Bonzell:

Oh, oh yeah. It’s a good time. We’re going to be in Nashville. We’re going to have to hook up and hang out and drink beer together or something like that.

Speaker 4:

Listen, listen. You’re a part of the family now.

Sue Bonzell:

Well, thank you. I really appreciate that. Well, you guys have a new EP out, is that correct?

Speaker 3:

We do. We do. Our EP came out, I guess, gosh, it was the beginning of 2020. So, and we’ve got some new music coming out. “Bar Friends” is out. So for everybody who hasn’t heard it, go check it out. We’ve got a music video. We’ve got a tortoise in the music video, a miniature pony. [crosstalk 00:12:09]

Sue Bonzell:

And then it was the panda. The panda head or something?

Group:

Yeah. There’s a mysterious figure in the videos of the man behind.

Sue Bonzell:

So you guys are clearly like no fun whatsoever.

Group:

Totally total. Like just a bunch of wet paper towels, man.

Sue Bonzell:

Yeah. I can tell, I can tell. Well, I think you’re going to have a lot more new fans after this. If you… Like they said, if you have not seen their new video “Bar Friends”, and if you want to keep your eyes on the road, they’re online. Oh, RestlessRoad.com. You can find these guys. Thank you guys so much for doing this. I hope to get to see you in person very, very soon. Other than up front onstage with Kane Brown. Exciting stuff.

Speaker 4:

Oh yeah.

Colton:

Thank you. We look forward to seeing you in Sacramento. Hey and Nashville too.

Sue Bonzell:

In Nashville too. See you soon!

Colton:

We’ll have to become true bar friends. We’ll get a beer together and it’ll be good.

Sue Bonzell:
